Not a new chapter, just one with a twist

Tomorrow is my first official day as a part-time employee. Weird. I promise that I have the best job ever. Really, I do. It's like someone gave me the chance to write the ultimate job description and made sure it incorporated my strengths and room to really challenge myself. But over the last several months, I've really felt the tug to create some needed margin on the home front. Jake has a full, full time job with the added joy of being in a PhD program. His schedule is just plain nuts. Luke is in kindergarten, and I never dreamed how much the leap into "real" school would impact our time as a family. Then there is Dosen who has to be along for the ride... literally. I think his most formative moments thus far have happened in our car going here, there, and everywhere.

I'm nervous about it a little. I've got an extra 20 hours a week to be at home. 20 hours a week sounds like a lot of time, but it will take all that is within me not to spend 19 of those cleaning my house and organizing the boys' sock drawer. Who will that benefit 5 years from now? No one will feel more loved or appreciated if he can see himself clearly in the microwave door.

So, tomorrow doesn't start a new chapter necessarily. It's just a chapter with a fun and exciting twist. Oh, and I have such gratefulness for my employer for valuing the fragility of a young family enough to make this change possible. Lee University - peep it for sheezy.

Very exciting. You will be amazed by how quickly those 20 hours will pass by every week.

This is great! I didn't know this was in your plans, but hopefully it will allow you to have the best of both worlds, so to speak.

Wow - that's awesome!!!! Way to go...hey maybe in your spare time maybe 5 or 10 hours of that week you guys can have a fake gimp arm and spend time together and make a few bucks while you're at it...

I read your blog from Rachel Hicks'. It is so tough at times to find the balance between mother, self, worker, and all of the other hats we wear. I work part-time as an adjunct English instructor and when I am working, I am wishing I were with the kids. When I am home all of the time, I long to be working at some level..."to use my talents and education, etc." So welcome to the world of the grass is always greener... enjoy your 20 hours at home. They will fly by!
