10,885

Bib #19709 finished 10,885th place of 22,749 finishers.

That's me, but not a single picture to prove it. Finished my first 1/2 marathon in Nashville on Saturday. As you can see by my stats, it was a mediocre performance by the race standards, but I had no goal time in mind for myself. Here's my mile recap:
  • 1-9.5 - glorious time, having a blast, and taking it all in
  • 9.5-10 - realize that I'm in deep trouble
  • 10-11 - someone shot a hole in the gas tank, and I'm losing fuel at an alarming rate
  • 11-12 - hanging on for dear life; running with eyes closed; out of body experiences
  • 12-13 - spend every step reminding my feet what to do
  • finish line - bliss
Highlights:
  • My running partners, Christy and Michelle. There's NO way I would've made it without these girls. We hung together until mile 11 or so. Michelle finished first of the 3, and then Christy who achieved a new PR by 10 minutes. Way to go girls!
  • Corral jumping - thanks to our friends in corral 7 who convinced us to jump in with them. It was a really long hike to 19.
  • The out and back section of the course. Very motivating to see all the really good runners going by, and let's be honest, it was great to see that thousands where behind me.
  • The precious souls along the residential stretch with an endless supply of orange slices. Thank you!
  • Team Lee's can't-miss-us-sherbert-gone-wild-colored shirts. It was so fun to spot that color along the miles and cheer for a familiar face. A few times spectators yelled out "Go, Lee University!" Loved that.
  • Belmont Church - those people were straight jammin' when we ran by.
  • The poor guy who thought our shirts were sponsored by a dentist office. The back read "People for Care and Learning." He thought it said "Care and Cleaning." And I thought I was delirious?
  • Alumni dinner at Buca - pre-race fun!
  • Lunch at Changs - our reward. Christy and I ate lemon scallops like they might grow legs and walk away at any second.
Good times. Love to do it again.

YEA for you!!! Really, I'm totally impressed and more than a little envious. Wish I could have done it with you, though I'm fairly certain you would have left me in the dust! :-)

Lemon scallops are a great reward for finishing anything, especially the death valley ½ marathon last week.

Congratulations on your first and most difficult!
