Advent ornament - because you asked

A few of you asked about the Advent ornaments from yesterday's post, so here are the instructions. It is a bit ghetto, if you will, but I only had to purchase the chocolates. Everything else is likely already in your cabinets or Christmas/gift wrapping stash.

You'll need:

1. Cling wrap

2. 25 Hershey kisses or your child's favorite candy

3. ribbon, raffia, pipe cleaners--any material you'd like to use to tie off 25 sections

How to:

1. Roll out a generous section of cling wrap. It took more than I thought, but it is an easy fix if you underestimate.

2. Line up the 25 candies in the center of the cling wrap with a bit of space between each.

3. Fold the cling wrap over to create one line. If you think, "whoa, this IS ghetto," you're doing it right.

4. Tie a ribbon (or whatever material you chose) around on either side of each treat until you have 25 treats segmented. We added a recycled gift tag to each one to remember which masterpiece belong to which child.

Only Luke was able to do the tying himself, but the little guys loved it anyway. They counted to 25 a bizzilion times, and if you use pipe cleaner or raffia, youngers might be able to manage. I let them decide where they wanted their ornaments to be displayed (see, I'm trying!), and they decided their bedroom doorknobs were best. At 6:55 this morning, all three had a mouth full of day 1's chocolate.

For this and other Advent celebration ideas, check out this site. Happy counting!

Luke 2:33 And his father and his mother were marvelling at the things which were spoken concerning him; 34 and Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel; and for a sign which is spoken against; 35 yea and a sword shall pierce through thine own soul; that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed.

AWESOME! I love me a Ghetto Advent Calendar (hehe). Seriously, this is an awesome craft and one that I can actually do. Thanks for sharing.

Pretty neat! I remember doing candy advent calendars with my girls, too. It does make it easier if they have a visual of "how many days left?" Is it too tempting for them to have the candy in sight and within reach but then have to wait till morning?
