Will August ever end?

Eternally optimistic and almost always a glass half-full person, I'm feeling August is akin to a roller coaster that I willingly got on only to find out it goes way faster and lasts far longer than I realized. I'm dizzy and worn out!

I know all of you are juggling very busy lives, too, so I won't bore you with all the details, but some of the highlights include:
  • Luke starting 1st grade (not one bit easier for me than him starting kindergarten)
  • Dosen starting a more permanent Parents Day Out schedule (3 days that he loves!)
  • Jake seizing the opportunity to be a New Testament instructor at Lee. Add this to his day (and night) job as college pastor and full time PhD student. Yes, he is a rockstar who manages to eat dinner with us almost every night.
  • My work stuff. Rarely predicable. The recent highlight was a visit from our state's very own Senator Bob Corker. With just a few days notice, we had a jammed out crowd for his town hall meeting, and I was so very proud that Lee University was the venue of choice for the big day.
  • Adoption paperwork - just received our fingerprint appt from USCIS. Progress feels great!
  • Adoption fundraising - we're embarking on the Both Hands project. Much more to come about this, but it requires a daunting application with LifeSong. Paperwork, boo. Bringing our boy home, YEA!
  • Beth Moore Simulcast - In June I agreed to serve as a point person for this event, but I'm a card-carrying, t-shirt wearing procrastinator. Regardless, Beth will be live-ish in the FBC Dining Hall this Friday and Saturday. Note: If you'd like tickets, I can hook a sista up.
  • Lots of other randomness like forsaking my coupon clipping and meal planning. I think my spin on why eating sandwiches for dinner is "fun" has run its course. They're on to me.
Crazy or not, we're having a blast. My family is one seriously fun crew! I think I'll be signing off the blog for awhile though to focus on wrapping up our dossier and shifting focus to adoption fundraising, so I'll leave you temporarily with several pictures...

A random night at our house. This kid loves to lay some sick beats. You think I'm kidding.

The keyboard is the coveted instrument, but the guitar is a close second.

Love this progression.

Mac is #1!

Ist day of 1 grade. Luke was made for school, and we have a wonderful teacher this year that seems perfectly suited to his style. She's a blogger, too, and here's what she had to say:

Luke is such a joy to have in class. Although, I should let you know, he's recently changed his name to "Leke". I'm not sure why but it's really funny. He also led the class in his version of a hip-hop choir today singing Black Eyed Peas and the 911 song...I really couldn't stop it...it was too spontaneous and awesome!!

May God bless Mrs. Martin with lots of love and energy this year! We're so grateful for her!

Day one was really rainy outside!

Both guys love to "cook." Cracks me up! In these photos Luke is baking a cake for his friend's wedding. He'll love when I tell that story at his rehearsal dinner someday.

A day at the river. Shout out to our Sooners friends.

I was not invited to the river excursion. I don't want to know how Luke made it to this rock.

Love this kid.

Hope to report back soon with pictures of our dossier in the mail. We're still optimistic that Vee will be home in early 2010. We're hurrying, buddy!

Geesh, just reading that list made me tired. Please pass on my congrats to professor Jake. So jealous there.

Let me know what I can do Merica. We don't have a lot of money, but I want to help you bring that sweet boy home.

I remember well the rush of mailing off that dossier. I brought my daughter to the mail box and let her mail it. Hoping you get the satisfaction of paperwork concluded (at least for a couple weeks) soon!
