Happy Mail from the Government

Sometimes trips the mailbox are cause for great excitement. I've been borderline stalking our mail carrier for our I800A notice, and today, she came through. And I quote: "You have been approved to adopt one child from the following Convention country: India." Yea!

Things are moving along so well this week. Yesterday I mailed a llloooonnnggg grant application, emailed another one, and the best part--mailed a photo book to our agency to be sent to our little man. I completely failed to get a picture of the album, but trust me that it was CUTE! Today I took a hefty stack of documents to my notary pal, and we got word that a local t-shirt printer has offered to donate shirts for us to use as a fundraiser. Wow! All of this and it's only Tuesday!

I only have two big steps left before our dossier heads to AIAA in Michigan--county certification here and apostille in Nashville. I'm so happy that I just might drive the stack to Nashville! Adoption paperwork isn't difficult to do, but so many of the documents are dependent on six others, and since we first saw our child's face in February, I'm so ready to get our paperwork to India. Everyday he's without us, and everyday we want him here.

Oh, and also in the mailbox... a Huggies diaper sample. Well, that sounds misleading. It was a whole diaper, but just one for us to sample. It felt like a little reminder that while I dream and wait for V to come home, the necessities of life and my terrific children with me already need me, too.

Merica,

I look forward to being serenaded by V, along with Dosen. I'll have my very own ELC duet featuring the stylings of Kanye and Black Eyed Peas (I smell a fundraiser concert brewing). Dosen really rocked out with us today! I told him he could start charging for all of the requests he's getting - he's my very own little personal travel-size entertainment provider. "I'm amazing, Ms. Alicia." One day I really am going to fit him into my pocket.

Congrats,
Alicia

Very Exciting! I'm with you, I would hand-carry those documents if possible. It took us 15 minutes to get them apostilled in Frankfort by walk-in, but it would have taken 2 weeks had we mailed them. That, and we didn't want to let them out of our site! They were them most important documents of our lives...until we received Manu's paperwork at Ashraya. Talk about being nervous; traveling all over India with a stack of IRREPLACEABLE documents! They were never more than 12 inches from me at any given moment, LOL!

Good luck!

So glad you have the option to hand-carry. Yes, do it if possible to let yourself sleep at night. Having your life in the hands of the USPS is less than ideal. We had to mail everything to be apostilled, as our SOS office is 6 hours away, and the Indian Consulate is in Chicago- not really a reasonable drive from N. MN. We even had to re-send things to the consulate for our visas, as my husband is a pastor and they had to have him fill out a form saying that he wouldn't preach or try to spread religion while in India which further lengthened the process for us.

The happiest part of your post for me (although I'm thrilled that you're getting the paperwork done and are getting approval notices- all high points) is hearing that soon Vee will have a photo album to look at. When we asked about Anju's album at Ashraya, and they pulled out everyone's albums and passed them out, we were heartbroken to see the looks on the faces of kids with no albums. To think that his little face will light up when he finally has an album of his own- meaning a family- brings such delight to my heart.

Congratulations on progress! Which facility is your son at? We are weeks away from flying out to get our daughter in Orissa.

I agree with Amy! The paperwork at times is exhausting- probably just the mental waiting while your child is sitting in an orphanage. However, having seen the kids at Ashraya get out their family books, I know that he will be absolutely thrilled to have one of his own. Hang in there! He will be home before you know it :)
